In the August 11 issue of Forbes:

1. David Dreman, a regular contributor of Forbes and Chairman of Dreman Asset Management, talked about Bear Market Opportunities. If you don’t own oil and gas explorers, he suggests you buy shares now. He says some companies have strong fuel reserves and are trading below the S&P multiple of 15, and analysts are basing their estimates on $100 per barrel of oil.  Three stocks he recommends:

a. Apache Energy

b. Devon Energy

c. Tesoro

2. Jim Oberweis, a regular contributor to Forbes and President of Oberweis Asset Management, believes now is the best time to in years to buy Chinese companies given that the forward multiple has fallen to 14, and the economy is still growing fast.  The best opportunities are in high-growth, small caps because they are underfollowed.  He looks for management ownership and barriers to entry, and appeal to Chinese consumers, who are increasing their spending power rapidly.  Advertising, education and entertainment companies should benefit:

a. Vision China Media  – 45,000 digital TVs on buses with exclusive contracts and no direct competition.

b. New Oriental Education and Technology Group- foreign language training and test prep courses.

c. ATA – leader in computer-based testing; 86% of tests in China are still paper and pencil.

d. Sohu- third largest internet portal; online games are growing as part of the business model.
