Researchers will be the first to adapt to anything that could further their work or make it easier. Sitting still with current research tool options is just not an option. Providing researchers with more efficient ways to reference their work, whether scientific, business or administrative, offers a solid path to profit. Some may have thought Google’s search engine was a breakthrough; they have not yet begun to see what the next best thing is now.
Collexis Holdings Inc., a knowledge search engine software company, offers a unique product oriented toward delivering more specific search results to researchers in all fields. Its “fingerprint†technology essentially works to deliver more relevant search articles then a standard search engine quarry. The system is customizable and is currently in use by many prestigious organizations such as the Mayo Clinic, the World Health Organization and several state bar associations.
Although the company’s software product may appear to be a one-off type of product, it is in realty both one-off and production in nature all at the same time. It is one-off in that it can be customizable to any particular field of study (currently legal and life-sciences) or production in the sense that it can be used by many individually large organizations (currently defense manufacturing and educational organizations.)
The company was originally founded in Europe as a project designed to aide communications between researchers during their work with developing countries. It has since developed into a company with three subsidiaries located in South Carolina, the Netherlands and Germany. The successes that the company is currently finding are showing that future growth is likely as it becomes more of a standard among researchers and as of yet undiscovered adaptors. The company is well-positioned to become a standard and is quick to point out that it is not controlled by Reed Elsevier or its licensed LexisNexis software.
