Organic Growing Systems, Inc., a scientifically advanced organic fertilizer manufacturer and a subsidiary of Advanced Growing System, has entered into a strategic relationship with Fisher Island. Fisher Island is a world-class, private-island residential community in south Florida with the highest per capita income in the United States. The island is only accessible by boat or helicopter, and is home to several well known celebrities, entrepreneurs, entertainers and athletes.

According to the agreement, Organic Growing Systems will supply organic fertilizer to Fisher Island through its distributor, Florida Mulch, Inc. Using organic fertilizer is a good step for the island and a good way for Fisher Island to set a good example as a community that is taking the lead in protecting its environment while several Florida municipalities ban the use of synthetic fertilizer, which has a detrimental effect in environmentally sensitive South Florida.

In response to the new relationship, Michael Morel, Director of Horticulture for Fisher Island stated, “As we are an island community, we have several issues relating to the safety of our soil and our water. From soil nutrient deficiencies and salt build up, to toxic run off, we are doing everything in our power to build up those soils to increase soil microbe levels, increase water holding capacity, and reduce leaching of essential nutrients. By not using synthetics we are also eliminating the introduction of more salts into the soil profile.”

He goes on further to state, “We are constantly striving to improve our maintenance program on the island. By using products which are environmentally safe and by veering away from synthetic fertilizers and making the move to organics, we feel we are making a responsible choice.”

Commenting on behalf of Organic Growing Systems is Marc Nichols, national sales manager, who stated, “Supplying our organic fertilizer to Fisher Island is a major step for us as a company. We are very fortunate to have such an esteemed community as Fisher Island as a customer. This will certainly lead the way for other communities to follow.”
